One-to-one Mindfulness Coaching
One-to-one mindfulness coaching is available with Dr Wendy Broad in Middlewich, Cheshire.
You can choose to follow an 8-week secular mindfulness course or I can design a personalised mindfulness programme for you. The secular mindfulness programmes offered include the evidence-based Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course and the Breathworks Mindfulness for Stress and Mindfulness for Health courses.
What happens in a one-to-one Mindfulness session?
At your first appointment I will take your personal details and ask you to complete a questionnaire regarding your current state of health and wellbeing. I’ll explore what you hope to gain from the sessions, provide some background information and answer any queries. All sessions are completely confidential. Any records taken will be seen only by myself, Wendy Broad and will be kept according to data protection legislation.
The secular 8-week mindfulness courses allow you to learn new skills to manage personal challenges and access greater balance and calm in life. You’ll explore mindfulness meditation practices and mindful movement. There is an opportunity to bring mindfulness into your daily life to help you learn to respond to your experiences, rather than reacting automatically. This can help you to feel more in control of the choices you make and enable you to rediscover a sense of contentment and ease. There is no religious or spiritual content.
Which course is for me?
Both the MBSR course and the Breathworks Mindfulness for Stress courses appeal to people wanting to reduce stress or enhance general health and wellbeing. The MBSR course includes mindfulness meditation practices lasting for 45 minutes, potentially taking you to a deep level of personal discovery and self-awareness. Breathworks courses have the added value of including positive psychology and compassion-based practices with shorter daily mindfulness practices lasting between 10 and 20 minutes. The Mindfulness for Health course is specifically designed for people living with pain and long-term physical illness and also includes the use of a pacing diary to help you to develop an awareness of nourishing and depleting daily activities to support your health and wellbeing.
Mindfulness in practice
Mindfulness involves tuning into our full experience from one moment to the next in a very patient and gentle way. Through mindfulness practice and mindfulness in daily life, we learn to notice whatever arises in our experience with a sense of openness and self-care.
During the mindfulness sessions, you’ll be supported with guided mindfulness practice, where you learn to become aware of sensations of the breath and body while sitting, lying down and in mindful movement. You’ll be encouraged to become aware of your thoughts feelings, emotions and bodily sensations with a sense of self-nurture, without judging or being self-critical.
If you choose to take a course of mindfulness sessions, you’ll explore bringing mindful awareness into daily life. In time, this enables us to take a new perspective on life’s ups and downs, allowing us to shift from reacting automatically to situations to responding with choice and awareness. This can have great health benefits and can help to reframe stressful situations and personal challenges, bringing a greater sense of calmness, ease and clarity into our life.
All mindfulness courses include daily mindfulness practice. Making the choice to engage in daily mindfulness practice is actively encouraged in the 8-week courses, although it is entirely up to you whether you do this or not. Research has shown that practising mindfulness on a daily basis leads to changes in the brain which are linked to stress reduction and improved health and wellbeing.
Who is mindfulness coaching suitable for?
Mindfulness is suitable for adults with all levels of physical fitness and of all ages. As you’ll be noticing thoughts, sensations and feelings, it may be better to wait if you are currently experiencing acute mental health conditions, serious physical or emotional trauma or stressful life events.
